What does "In Transit" mean?

So I ordered a package on Amazon February 7,2011 and today is February 10,2011 and it says the status is In Transit and i don't know what that means.Also,the it says the package was from Elkhorn,Nebraska.Can someone tell me how long it will take for it to get to Walnut Creek,CA.
