Jeep Grand Cherokee axle/dif?

If you change the transmission on a 1998 Grand Cherry from a NP231( command trac)to a NP242 ( selectrac) does it mean you have to change the rear axle/dif too?? or are the ratios the same?? OR does it not matter??
