So I accidentally ran over a bird with my lawn mower... What would you have done?

I was mowing the lawn, and something fell out of the tree right in front of my lawn mower. It fell too fast for me to stop, so I ran over it. I heard it thud, and I backed up to see what I hit. When I backed up, I saw a bird, with no head, flopping around. Since it was flopping around, I thought it might still be able to feel things, and I didn't want it to suffer, so I ran over it some more. Now there is little chunks of bird all over my lawn. Blood too. So, I thought I was doing something to help the bird by running over it again, and my Mom and Grandma said that I should have just stopped, and maybe buried it or threw it in the creek or something. What would you have done?
